In this Snail Mail Ideas interview I am interviewing Laura Vorlicek from Australia! (aka @Lauravorlicek on Instagram!) She is such a creative and talented girl! She makes adorable mail and is creative with her planner too! You may also know her of her amazing craft room! Who is behind this creative mail?
Hi Laura! Thank you for this interview! Let start with the beginning of your own Snail Mail adventure! When did you start with writing letters? I stumbled across the world of snail mail coming up to two years ago. When I was a little girl I always collected stationery and wrote letters to my friends, so I immediately fell in love with the idea of having penpals around the world.
How did your mail looked like back then? When did you started to decorating your letters? My original mail was VERY basic compared to what I send now. It was basically just a letter and a mail tag page. I did enjoy using pretty paper, but I think snail mail has become so much more creative since then. Each letter is a little piece of art.
When you start with a letter for a penpal what is the first thing you start with? Do you have a ritual? In the past I would write my letter and let that shape what the mail looked liked, but I have now flipped. I get an idea in my head of colour or theme, create the mail and then write the letter to include.
And one thing everybody is curious about! How does your craft space looks like? I think my craft space is probably the most photographed room in history. If you want to see it definitely check out my insta 🙂
If you needed to go to an island in the middle of the ocean, and you could only bring 3 craft/Snail Mail items, what would you really bring with you? A pen, paper and a roll of washi tape. I’d write my letter and then build a raft with the paper and tape so I could post it. I’ll paddle with my pen. It’s a very well thought out plan
You make very cute and creative pictures of everything, I see you are also a creative planner girl! What is your advice to people that are doubting to start with a planner?(Like me, all those planners look so cute!) And what do you like about it? Which planners would you recommend? Planning is amazing, like snail mail it’s a fun little mini-project to decorate your pages each week. I love erin condren, kikki k or filofax planners. The good thing about ring planners is that you can customise them by taking out or adding in pages and you can use them again year after year.
You are very active on Instagram with sharing your mail with a lot of followers! (9700) But what kind of account are you following? What are 5 Instagram accounts that inspire you and why? I follow such a random assortment of accounts from planner, snail mail, health and interior design accounts. It’s so hard to narrow it down because I love all the accounts I follow, but My favourites are probably:
@kyliefloss – as you know kylie is a snail mail queen and such an amazingly kind and lovely person too
@happymail__ Helen is genuinely the most innovative penpal I have ever had, she is constantly coming up with new and creative ways to share mail
@createwithbeth – always inspires me with her beautiful planner spreads!
@heidiswapp – I just think Heidi is so inspirational, not only does she continue to create amazing products, but her personal story is really moving.
When i am scrolling through your instagram accounts I also see an adorable little dog, who I totally fell in love with! What is her name? and what is the most funniest moment you had with her? My new puppy is called Pop, she is a 17 week old Samoyed and she is trouble with a capital T. In the morning she sings for her breakfast, it never fails to make me laugh.
What are your favorite shops to buy your craft stuff? and which store you wish you could shop but is not in your country? My new favourite is the online store sassyscrapper – as it has such a wide variety of product. I also love spotlight! I would kill to one day visit a target dollar spot section!
You probably getting a lot of requests from people that want to be your penpal! How many do you have? and is there a special person you really want to be penpals with? I have approximately 15 penpals at the moment, 10 who would write regularly. There isn’t anyone jumping out at me who I want to be penpals with, I’m so happy with the people I’m already writing to!
Lets talk about some not mail related stuff! For which food can somebody wake you up ? Nutella toast
Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Probably still sitting in my craft room with my dogs
…. and do you think you still will be writing letters? Definitely!
Do you have other hobbies besides making creative mail? I’m obsessed with watching tv series!
Which quote suits you? and why? “Find what you love and do it often” – I love finding time to do the things I love, that ‘s when I’m the happiest.
….and the last question, what is one silly thing people should know about you? I am terrified that one day I will end up on the tv show hoarders.
